Dog Food Research Project
If you've been in our store during the last month or two, chances are good that we've talked to you about what you feed your dog or cat. There are two reasons for this: The first reason is that without a good knowledge of manufacturer labelling and an even better knowledge of nutrition, you may be making an ill-informed choice of kibble.
The way that most people learn about dog foods is through tv advertising. Large corporations who sell massive amounts of cheap foods can afford to spent tons of money on advertising, and they DO. We call these the "grocery store brands", like Iams, Purina, Pedigree, and other brands you know well. But what you might not know is that quality is much deeper than appearance, or the marketing standards that allow these brands to advertise a "well-balanced diet". We want to educate our customers about how to compare dog food brands, and how to choose a brand and recipe that's suitable for your dog's size, age, and breed. So we started a dog food comparison project. To download this chart, click HERE.
The dog food comparison project takes into account guaranteed analysis (protein, fat, fiber, moisture), sugars, artificial colors, and whether the foods contain wheat, corn, soy or animal byproducts. Our comparison includes grocery store brands, mid-level brands, high-end brands (including Grain Free varieties), and gives a price per pound based on our own prices and those of an average chain pet supply store. So far we have researched 17 dog kibble varities, but we are looking to add more as we assess our customers' interests.
The second reason that we want to talk to you about your pet's dietary needs is because we would like to expand our food selection. We try to have free samples of all of our in-stock kibble varities, so please ask us what we can give you! Customers' feedback is vital to our efforts; thank you!
